Making newspaper reading exam-ready
What to note from The Hindu / Indian Express, how to link editorials to GS papers, and when monthly magazines are enough.
Newspaper reading becomes useful only when it maps to the syllabus. Endless highlighting without tags creates anxiety, not notes.
- •Prelims Focus: Institutional mandate, member countries, observer status guidelines, and strategic polar agreements.
- •Mains Focus: GS Paper 2 (Bilateral, regional and global groupings) & GS Paper 3 (Climate and energy security).
For Prelims and Geography CA, note facts, schemes, bodies, reports, and map-related items. For Mains CA, capture arguments, both sides of a debate, and examples you can reuse in GS II, III, Essay, and Ethics.
Editorials are for analysis, not for copying vocabulary. After reading, ask: which GS paper does this feed? Write a 4–5 line note with the issue, stakeholders, and a way forward.
Monthly magazines help consolidate. Use them to revise, not to replace daily awareness entirely in the months before the exam.
Career Prepp briefs are tagged to Geography and Mains tracks so revision is faster — the same habit you should build in your personal notes.
